TP-Link Tapo P100 Review

Smart Plugs really compliment a smart home but suffer from the problem of not fitting in with either your room's aesthetic or the socket design generally. The unassuming TP-Link Tapo P100 Mini Smart Wi-Fi Socket aims to fill that gap. More so, the plug does quite a bit for what it is priced at.

Design

Fully white and plastic, the socket is small and is generally built to go with the rest of your houses other sockets. It comes in at 51 x 72 x 40mm and if you're putting this next to another socket, it won't come in the way.

TP-Link Tapo P100 Review

It's got a manual control switch as well in case you want to turn it off and not necessarily turn off the main switch it's connected to, which is nice.

Software

If you already own a TP-Link product you'll find that the Tapo product is an entirely different brand and you'll need to install the Tapo app to operate the smart plug which is odd considering the UI and design between their main app and Tapo are almost similar and they could have done an integration here.

The Tapo app is fairly robust and it does a great job in setup and it's also very responsive with commands too. When you connect it to your network you can then operate the switch with the app but you can also more. You can integrate voice commands, schedule power on times and you can also set it to Away mode which randomly turns on if you choose to connect it to power a light source to give the impression you're home. If you just want to turn it off or on, you can use Apple's homekit, Google Home and Amazon's Alexa. It's not compatible however with Samsung's Smart things app.

Verdict

There's not much to say about the TP-Link Tapo P100 Mini Smart Wi-Fi Socket because it does exactly what it says on the box, and it does it well. While it doesn't provide energy statistics beyond runtime usage but for the price that's something that can be overlooked. It's priced at AED 59, so definitely priced in the area that you can get many of these fit in your home and integrate in your smart home system and that's pretty much a solid bargain.
